Forest Day 12.7. - Silva Festum
A forest day for the whole family in the Paljakka Research Forest in Puolanka on July 12th. Welcome!
The Forest Day includes guided excursions to nature, supervised nature activities for children and a forest drama performance. The exhibition of the Forest Research Institutes' Environment Specimen Bank is open to visitors. Coffee and the Finnish specialty "tikkupulla" are served.
The Paljakka Research Forest is a good place to explore the old spruce forests and slopy peat bogs, which are typical to the forested hills in Kainuu. Ferns and other demanding vegetation can be found along the small brooks on the hill sides. A special feature of the area is the small patches of birch forests, which are a trace of the long preserved burn-clearing culture in the Paljakka area. The Research Forest has a diverse network of trails, which are suitable for year-round hiking.
The aim of the Forest Day is to attract attention to the nature and recreational values of the Research Forest, and to offer a possibility to explore them in excursions and other guided activities.
Starting from 1 pm at the Environment Specimen Bank of the Forest Research Institute (Metlan ympäristönäytepankki), Latvantie 55, Puolanka
Travel directions and more information can be found on our website www.mustarinda.fi/metsäjuhla.
